Robert Fanshawe was born on the 4 January 1740 and died on the 4 February 1823. He was the second son of Rear Admiral Charles Fanshawe〔http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/paintings/captain-robert-fanshawe-17401823-rn-133441〕 and Elizabeth Rogers daughter of Sir John Rogers 2nd Bt. ==Naval career== Robert joined Royal Navy in 1753 he was promoted to the Rank of lieutenant in 1759, Master and Commander in 1762, then Captain in 1768.
